A banned Chhatra League leader who came to take an exam at Dinajpur Haji Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University has been detained by students and handed over to the police. He was detained while taking the exam on Tuesday afternoon. Later, with the help of the university’s proctoral body, he was handed over to the police station.
The name of the detained Chhatra League leader is Sabbir Mahmud alias Shuvo. He is a student of the university’s Architecture Department in the 2014-15 session and was the joint general secretary in the last committee of the university branch Chhatra League. He has already completed his graduation. However, Sabbir failed in some subjects. He came to the campus today to take part in a special repeat exam.
When asked about the matter, the university’s proctor, Professor Shamsujjoha, said, “The detained student was a senior leader of Chhatra League. Today, he had an exam on the third floor of the university’s Wazed Bhaban. At that time, ordinary students recognized him and detained him. So that no mob would be created, we reached the spot as soon as we came to know about the matter. Later, the student was handed over to the police. The examination control branch will take further action in this regard.’ Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station Deputy Inspector Majedul Islam said, after receiving the information, the student was arrested from the scene and brought to the police station. He was a post-graduate leader of the university branch of the Chhatra League. Initially, evidence was found that he was involved in the clashes during the July movement. Legal action will be taken against him and he will be sent to jail through the court.
